We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Block Island, and we highly recommend this little island getaway from it all. There is no glitz and no plastic to this beautiful place, but there is great food (love that fresh lobster and those scones!), great drink, excellent free beaches, clear and clean water, gorgeous highways and byways to explore on bike or on foot, friendly people, starry, starry skies, and a very relaxing ambiance that is hard to find in this day and age.
We stayed in Wickford House, a nice little cottage that is part of the The Spring House Hotel, we rented bikes as our transportation, brought most of our food from the mainland but supplemented it with lobsters from "the lobster lady", tomatos from "the tomato lady" and scones from "the scone lady", and really enjoyed that signature island drink, "The Mudslide", NOT from "the mudslide lady" but from The Oar, a locals favorite kind of place.
