Under the Stars at The Mann

Last evening we spent a delightful two hours at The Mann Center, www.manncenter.org ,
in Fairmount Park being entertained by the amazingly talented Bernadette Peters. She certainly has the best figure and one of the best, if not the best, voices of any woman in the Baby Boomer generation, hands down. It is almost impossible to believe that she was born in 1948!

Miss Peters was accompanied by The Chamber Orchestra of The Philadelphia Symphony, but there was a fun little surprise there. Playing drums for the evening was Cubby O'Brien, and those of you who are as old as I am will know just who he is. Remember The Mickey Mouse Club and the two youngest Mouseketeers, Cubby and Karen? Yes, I was able to finally see and here my earliest crush in person :-). When Bernadette introduced him, the crowd cheered. As you can imagine, there were not many under 40 year olds in the large and enthusiastic crowd.

Sadly this was our last evening at The Mann for 2008. We have enjoyed everything from Rain, The Beatles Experience to The Philadelphia Orchestra performing Bach, Beethoven and Berlioz to Hippiefest to Julie Andrews to Bernadette Peters. Wonder what next season will have in store for us?
