Day 3 - Such Excitement and So Beautiful and More Medals!
Ken was hoping for powder so he went out to do a "LilaNut" snow dance before breakfast to bring on some snow, but the outcome was another pristine blue sky day! Sorry, Ken!
Ready to ski first tracks down to the Dave Murray area to find the best viewing zone for the Men's Super G. We really were almost the only people on the slopes except for the girls headed to train on Franz's with their coaches. The guys approached their slope off of Whiskey Jack through some closed areas so we did not ski with them this AM.
Some of Gli Azzurri waiting for their training runs. Forza Italia!
A mini meeting of some Austrian coaches.
We hiked 300 meters straight up from the Big Red lift area to find this prime, and unmarked, viewing spot that a slope volunteer told us about. We were opposite a camera, near a microphone, and in prime position to see both the start and the first big jump on the Super G.
Taking a break on our walk up. Phew!
Our American and Canadian flags mark out our spot between gates 5, 6, and 7.
A German racer on the big curve, and it is Stefan Kepplar. He fell shortly after this and was out of the race. A huge number of racers did not finish this very steep and icy course.
It was so hard to get a photo of one of the racers because they were going so fast and my camera is just not that fast! I tried and tried and tried, but Stefan is the only one I could capture. Of course, it is hard to take a photo while screaming, yelling, ringing a cowbell (all so loudly that Ashley thought she actually heard us on TV) and waving a flag! Oh such is life at the Olympics!
We could hear the roar of the crowd at the Creekside base from our perch way up the run, and we knew that Norway's Axel Lund Svindal won Gold but also that Bode Miller and Andrew Weibrecht took the Silver and Bronze. Great results!!
It helps when people standing near you also have a TV on the iPhone! We knew the results even before they came over on the loudspeakers.
GO USA!
